Blog Entry #5 "Fresh?" Looks like Not

Recently in our English Class we watched a documentary called "Fresh." My first thought of this movie was that it would give us a fresh look into the farming industry and maybe show us the efficiency of our country's economics. As it continued, it slowly showed and explained how unhealthy the food was, mainly because of the way its being processed. By the end of the movie I realized that the efficiency that we strive for in our society, is ultimately destroying anything "fresh" about our food. Although the food companies may portray this view to us.

So how do we meet this efficiency and also provide the fresh needs that we as humans not only need but want? The answer is simple. We need a new strategy. A new process to integrate our food into the populace. That is what I believe. I don't have a solution yet, but I want to make sure we start somewhere. The first step to change things in society is to inform the people. I highly recommend that if you haven't watched this film, that you do give it a watch. That way you can pass on the information you learn from this film as well. Lets work together for our future and inform everyone!

While researching the topic of this I also found this documentary. If your interested in learning more "Growing Local" has some great information on the possible futures for our society.

Blog Entry # 4 A Look into the "Gaming" Life

You may or may not know it, but I love to game. I mentioned this in my introduction. I currently play on a PS4 Platform, but some of the games I will be mentioning today should also be available on the Xbox one and PC. If your not an avid gamer, but are looking to try some new games, this blog will be good for you.We just have to find the right game for YOU!

So if you did not already know, the release of Call of Duty : Black ops 4 came out this past Friday, October 12, 2018. Call of Duty has been a popular game since 2011. You know since it has thrived this long, it is not going to be some game you just wasted your money on and toss aside. You will have hours of play time before you know it. This game is one of the most popular series out there. Even if your not a gamer you have probably heard someone mention this game. Some of the details you might want to know is, that it is a first person shooter game (You see from game characters eyes). It also has a story mode(play against AI's) or multiplayer mode. The more commonly played side is the multiplayer mode where you compete against other players across the internet in different types of game modes. This will be a great game to play with friends and family.

An upcoming game that I highly recommend is Fallout 76. It is to be released on November 14, 2018. If you have not played a fall out game, it is more of a RPG ( Role playing game) type. The story of the game is set in a post apocalyptic world where you complete quests and try to survive. You can play this from either first or third person ( third person means your view of character is from behind them). This is a game where you can level your character up, equip different gears, and equip stronger guns to make your character stronger. If your not too good at playing games against other people this is definitely the game for you. While it is very time consuming, the scavenging aspect of this series is so fun.

So that is it for my current recommendations of games for now. These games are both brand new, and the reason I say to try these ones first is because everyone else is going to be trying them for the first time as well. They may have experience from the previous games, but the initial game-play will be different. So this gives you time to learn while others adjust. Any other honorable mentions for games, please comment. I would love to get some suggestions of my own.
Blog Entry #3 Status Update

After recently listening to This American Life's podcast, it has become even more apparent to me how much attention these posts and stories are geared towards women. I mean, even an the interview with kids, they only asked girls how social media affects them. Assuming that three teenagers can give us all the answers to high school decorum, why be gender bias about it? I, as a man, use social media for completely different reasons than these three girls. And I am sure there are plenty of guys out there who can agree with what I am saying.

This photo I have included on the left is a perfect depiction of the awareness that women have of men when engaging them. This guy might look like he is just being friendly and shy, but to the trained eye...... this guy is obviously flirting with this girl. You can even notice the look on her face is completely clueless as to whats happening. The reason I used this picture as an example, is to show that our perceptions of things aren't always what they appear. With this growing media trend, we see all these comments and                                                            posts, but really have no clue what the meaning behind all of                                                             them are. Just what we perceive them to be.

As we move further into future, times are changing. We all want to believe that we can ultimately understand one another, but sometimes nature just will not let us. From a guy's perspective of this podcast, I can say when I tell a girl she is pretty or gorgeous, its because I am interested in her. Not because of my social status or because I need so many likes or dislikes. Guys typically want girls to like them. That why we would post a selfie. To see what girls or guys are interested. Not because its like grabbing "Attention Candy". There is no deeper meaning
or hidden messages. It just is what it is.

After reading some of my examples above, I hope you have come to understand my viewpoint on this criteria. It did have some valuable insight from women, to other women and some men, on how teenage girls view social media. In my blog, I will continue to make sure I am including everyone and not just the girls.
